Did You Know?

DID YOU KNOW? Now comes WALMART InHome: Walmart is opening a new front in home-delivery services: This fall, Walmart store workers in 3 cities - armed with body cameras clipped to their chests to allow customers to watch deliveries live - will start delivering online grocery orders directly to refrigerators in shoppers’ homes and garages, the company said. Workers will enter residences equipped with smartlocks, internet-connect devices that can be controlled remotely to unlock a door. Amazon offers a similar in-home delivery service for Prime members in 50 cities, called Key by Amazon. But drivers don’t deliver fresh groceries, and they leave items just inside a door, garage or the trunk of a car, not a refrigerator. (WSJ)

DID YOU KNOW? Housing affordability is fueling a crisis of homelessness in California, despite billions of dollars in taxpayer-funded efforts (higher property taxes in LA). Homelessness jumped 12% and 16% from a year ago in the county and city of Los Angeles, respectively. The tally showed 58,936 homeless people in Los Angeles County, which includes 36,300 in the city, the USA’s largest outdoor-homeless population. In San Francisco, the number rose 17% while Alameda County, which includes Oakland, saw a 43% increase. Homelessness grew 42% in San Jose over the past 2 years and 31% in Santa Clara County, the heart of Silicon Valley. New York is not far behind.

DID YOU KNOW? Growth in remodeling spending is expected decline in 29 of 49 of America’s largest cities in 2019, a study by Harvard University’s Joint Center for Housing Studies found. Spending growth on remodeling is expected to drop relative to 2018 levels. In 22 cities, it will hit its lowest point in 3 years. Have these people heard of COMPASS CONCIERGE? (Marketwatch)
